6 Fun Things to Do at the Universal Theme Parks- Apart from the Rides!

Fun things to do at Universal Orlando Resort

The Universal Orlando Resort is known for its amazing rides, but there’s so much more you must do during your visit…

The Universal theme parks are famous for their incredible rides, from impressive 4D attractions to epic roller coasters. While riding as many of these as possible should definitely be on your must-do list, there’s so much more to do at the parks besides the rides, and you really should make time to do it all. We’ve put together a list of 6 fun things you must do at the Universal Orlando Resort and not one of them is a ride…

1. Try the amazing food

At Universal Orlando Resort, there are so many amazing foods to try. We’d definitely recommend visiting on an empty stomach, so that you can try as many as possible. One of the things we love most about the food here, is that most of it is themed. For example, you can get a huge Lard Lad Donut (the size of your head!) or a juicy Krusty burger in Springfield, or sweet snacks like cauldron cupcakes, Butterbeer-flavoured ice cream and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Make sure you try as many tasty treats as possible while you’re here and don’t forget to take a photo to brighten up your Instagram page!

2. Go shopping on Diagon Alley

Diagon Alley at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

If you’re a Harry Potter fan (who isn’t?), then walking along the cobbled streets of Diagon Alley will be a dream come true. There are so many magical shops to explore, where you can pick up unique souvenirs to take back home. Head to Ollivanders to get your very own interactive wand, which allows you to cast spells throughout the Wizarding World.

Another shop you must visit is Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. This colourful emporium is owned by mischievous twins Fred and George Weasley and is filled with lots of weird and wonderful objects you’re sure to love, including the adorable Pygmy Puffs below. If you buy one in store, the whole shop will take part in a special naming ceremony for your new pet!

Head to Sugarplum’s Sweetshop afterwards to satisfy your sweet tooth. This incredible shop has every Wizarding sweet you can imagine, from candy quills to the famous chocolate frogs!

3. Meet your favourite characters

At the Universal Orlando Resort, you’ll have the chance to get up close to your childhood heroes. Head to Springfield to meet the whole Simpson family, make friends with the Minions, hang out with Scooby Doo and the gang and chat to Shrek and his hilarious sidekick Donkey, all at Universal Studios Florida.

Over at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, you can snap selfies with super heroes like Spider-Man and Captain America, before coming face to face with a huge raptor!

4. Enjoy Universal’s Superstar Parade

Universal’s Superstar Parade gives you the chance to see all of your favourite characters in one place. The streets of Universal Studios Florida come alive as a series of dazzling floats glide past with classic characters on board and talented street performers leading the way. Make sure you arrive early to get the perfect viewing spot and wave along as the likes of SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora & Diego, Gru, Agnes, Edith & the Minions, and the adorable animals from the Secret Life of Pets pass by.

5. Play!

If you’re visiting with little ones, there’s plenty to keep them entertained, with lots of fun kids play areas, including the 'Curious George Ball Factory', water play area and the Animal Show tent, which will provide hours of fun.

Did you know, there’s also lots of places where the big kids can have some fun too? In Springfield you can challenge yourself at Simpsons Games, where there’s a host of carnival style games, including an Itchy and Scratchy game called “Whac-A-Rat” and "The Sledge Homer".

6. Watch a show (or two!)

Both Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure have several spectacular shows to keep guests entertained. For some amazing live music check out the Blues Brothers Show or listen to the Hogwarts Frog Choir perform with their croaking frog friends. If you're looking for a bit of action, watch the epic, gravity-defying stunts in ‘Fear Factor Live’.
