While walking around Florida’s huge theme parks might seem like a sporting activity in itself, there are lots of exciting sporting experiences you can enjoy during your holiday. American sporting events are different to anything you’ve seen before, with each game packed with plenty of action, an electric atmosphere and lots of entertainment.
So, if you’ve been wondering what the most popular Florida sports are or where to watch sports games in Florida, let us help you out. We’ve put together a list of a few of our favourite sports events that we’d recommend for your Florida holiday...
Watch an Orlando Magic Basketball Game
There is plenty of magic to be found at the Orlando theme parks, but this is a different kind of Orlando Magic- the basketball kind! The Orlando Magic are a professional team competing in the National Basketball Association otherwise known as the NBA. Their home stadium is the Amway Center which is just a short journey from the main Florida theme parks. If you’re looking for a fun way to spend the evening after a day of braving thrilling roller coasters, then look no further!
An Orlando Magic game is a totally unique experience and one we’re sure you’ll never forget. The atmosphere is incredible, and the games are always fast paced and full of action. If that wasn’t enough to keep you entertained there are dance performances throughout the night, appearances from the team’s loveable mascot ‘Stuff’ and even chances to win some amazing prizes. Orlando Magic tickets start from just £16pp which makes this a fun, affordable night out that the whole family can enjoy.
See the Orlando City Soccer team in action
Get ready to join the ‘purple revolution’ at an incredible Orlando City soccer game. Sports aside, these games are slightly different to an Orlando Magic game as the entertainment is all on the pitch. You won’t find any half time shows here, just 90-minutes of non-stop action.
Orlando City are an MLS (Major League Soccer) team with fiercely proud fans. If you want to join in the fun and support the team, make sure you book tickets for an Orlando City soccer game during your holiday. The season runs from March-October giving you plenty of time to see ‘the lions’ in action.
You don’t have to worry about transport either because you can choose to purchase Orlando City soccer tickets with transport included.
Visit the ESPN Wide World of Sports
The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is a huge athletic complex spanning over 230-acres. It’s located in the Walt Disney World Resort which means that if you have Disney tickets you can visit the complex for free!
These state-of-the-art facilities host thousands of events each year for more than 60 different kinds of sports. So, if you’re planning a visit to Florida, we’d recommend checking what’s on before you go as there might be something that catches your eye. You'll have to pay to watch some of the games so make sure you check this in advance too.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite watching the games, head over to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill where you can enjoy hearty burgers, smoked chicken wings, pizza, soups, salads and much more. You’ll also get a perfect view of the Sports Center desk.
Try the NBA Experience- Opening August 12th 2019!
If you’ve already seen some of the sports games in Florida and want a piece of the action, head over to Disney Springs to try out the new NBA Experience. This incredible attraction will be opening on 12th August 2019, giving fans the chance to put their skills to the test and see how they match up against some of the top NBA players.
There will be fun challenges, interactive elements and hands-on activities to try. Plus, all of your stats will be tracked throughout the experience, just like in a real game. This attraction is set to be a huge hit with fans, so if you’re visiting later this year, make sure it’s on your ‘must-do’ list.
Experience Go Karting
If you’re a serious sports fan you might already know that Daytona Beach in Florida, is home to the Daytona International Speedway. This famous racing track is where the most prestigious NASCAR race (the Daytona 500) takes place and is only an hour and a half away from the main Florida theme parks.
If you don’t have a car or if this is a bit too far for you to travel, don’t worry. You can still get a taste of the action nearby and won't have to miss out on the fun. I-Drive NASCAR is an indoor, adrenaline-fuelled experience that lets you feel what it’s like to race around the track at top speed! Your go-kart will reach up to 45mph as you take on 12 turns, 3 hairpins, 1 chicane and even a ‘Senna S’.
Located on International Drive this is just 10-minutes away from the Universal theme parks and around 20-minutes from the Walt Disney World Resort.
