Epcot’s annual celebration of spring

From spectacular Disney-themed topiaries to live music and mouth-watering cuisine. The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is not to be missed…

It’s almost that time of year again, where Disney’s Epcot park undergoes an incredible transformation. The International Flower and Garden Festival sees the park filled with more than 100 colourful Disney-themed topiaries to celebrate the arrival of spring. That’s not all though, there’s also a series of live concerts as well as delicious food to try throughout the World Showcase. What’s even better, is that all of the amazing activities are included with your theme park tickets! This year’s event will run from 1st March to 29th May. Here’s our must-do festival guide…

Admire the topiaries:

The topiaries at Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival are truly breath-taking. There are over 100 topiaries to discover across the park and it’s well worth spending some time searching for them all. Make sure you’ve got your camera with you as you’ll want to take plenty of pictures of the amazing works of art. Look out for your favourite characters immortalised in topiary form, with the likes of Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Anna and Elsa, Captain Hook and Beauty and the Beast just a few of the figures on display. This year there will be some new original displays too!

Explore the gardens:

During the festival, the park is more colourful than ever with blooming gardens pruned to perfection, just waiting to be explored. Let your senses take over and appreciate the sights, sounds and smells of nature as you wander through gardens filled with exotic plants and flowers. There’s so much to see, but one of our favourites is the 'Butterflies on the Go' exhibit, which lets you get up close to several species of gorgeous butterflies.

You should also check out the amazing Bonsai Tree collection, the ‘Illuminated Gardens’ that glow through the night, the ‘Health and Healing Garden’ which features plants with the ability to heal, and the ‘Floating Mini-Gardens’- 225 miniature pots drifting along the ponds.

Try the tasty dishes:

All the food at Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival is made with the freshest locally sourced ingredients, offering guests plenty of healthy, wholesome dining options. You can find the ‘Outdoor Kitchens’ throughout the World Showcase, each with a speciality menu of mouth-watering dishes.

Head to Germany for Bavarian bites like potato pancakes drizzled with home-made apple sauce or roasted Bratwurst with curry ketchup and paprika spiced chips. Visit Japan for succulent beef teriyaki noodles tossed on the grill with soy and ginger, or stop at the American Adventure for a delicious pulled pork slider topped with crunchy coleslaw.

Afterwards, quench your thirst with an ice-cold glass of cider near the United Kingdom pavilion. It would be impossible to try everything in one visit, but with so many tasty dishes to choose from, we’re sure you could give it a good try!

Watch a live concert:

Get ready to sing along to classic hits from world-famous artists at the Garden Rocks Concert Series. Every Friday through to Monday, the America Gardens Theatre will come to life by hosting several unmissable live performances. The Pointer Sisters will get you singing along to classics like “I’m so excited”, while The Spinners will have you joining in on songs like “Working My Way Back to You”, and STARSHIP starring Mickey Thomas will perform the iconic “We Built This City”.

Pick up top tips:

During the weekends, there will be special guest appearances from “gardening gurus”. Visit a range of exhibits and presentations, where you can learn handy tips and get inspiration for your own garden. There’s a chance to ask Disney horticulturists and Master Gardeners questions about their amazing displays, and learn how to replicate their designs at the complimentary how-to demonstrations.

Go behind-the-scenes:

There really is so much to see at this amazing festival, but if you’re keen to find out more, you can actually go behind-the-scenes with an exclusive tour. If you’re passionate about gardening, the ‘Gardens of the World’ tour is led by an expert Disney horticulturist who will share secrets with you about what it takes to create and maintain the festival’s lush landscapes and breath-taking displays. You’ll also learn impressive gardening techniques that you can apply at home.

For something a bit different, the ‘Behind the Seeds’ tour lets you get closer to nature with a visit to the fish farm during feeding time and a tour of four greenhouses where you’ll release ladybugs to help protect the plants. There is an additional cost for these tours, and they’re both popular, so if you’d like to go we’d recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
