Think you can handle 30 laps of white-knuckled, heart pounding speed? Taming the speedway in 3 driving segments allows you to improve your driving line, increase your speed and encourages the idea that you may change careers in this, the ultimate half-day driving experience. Between your driving sessions, drivers will receive one-on-one feedback from the Pit Road Instructor, as well as additional instruction from the on-track driving instructors.
- 5-minute - Orientation and Video - Meet Richard Petty Driving Experience staff and watch a short video featuring Richard Petty.
- 20-minutes - Driving Instruction - Learn from your crew chief how to master the track driving line, acceleration / deceleration points, following distance.
- 25-minutes - Mechanical and Safety Instruction - Learn the details of the race car including entry and exit, shifting pattern, safety devices and more.
- 10-minutes - Mandatory Driver’s Meeting - This is the time to go over final details, ask last minute questions and receive the driving order. Participants will have their photo(s) taken next to a RPDE car. Then hear those famous words in Motorsports, "Drivers Start Your Engines!"
- 1-hour approximately - Driving Experience - Participants will drive 30 laps over 3 sessions. In between the session participants will receive feedback from the instructors. This ensures that each subsequent session shows improvement in driving skill and takes you closer to meeting the top goal speed.
- 15-minutes - Closing Ceremony - Participants will receive a Graduation Pack, including a detailed lap-time sheet showing each lap driven and an Graduation Certificate with name, date and estimated top goal speed reached.
The Richard Petty Rookie Experience is available daily throughout the year at the Walt Disney World Speedway within Walt Disney World Florida (please note that entry tickets for WDW are NOT required). You must make your own way to the track. However a free shuttle is available from the Transportation Center (TTC) at the Disney's Magic Kingdom.
Your experience will be in NASCAR-style stock racing cars. No prior experience is required, but you must have a valid UK driver’s license and the ability to drive a standard transmission (UK style gearbox) to participate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can family and friends come along?
Absolutely! We have a special seating area set-up where family and friends can watch. They are welcome to bring video recorders and cameras.
Terms and Conditions
- Participants must be at least 18 years old and hold a full drivers license.
- The cars do not have doors so participants must be able to climb through a 15” high by 30” wide window that sits 36” from the ground.
- If the track is wet, then you will be offered an alternative date.
- Top speed varies according to student performance, track location and the limits set for each programme.
- Your experience will be in NASCAR-style stock cars.
- No prior racing experience is required, but you must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive a standard transmission (UK style gearbox) to participate.
